Sure ye saw this one in the What are you uwearing? this very morn. But I did promise to tell all.. so here we go!

That's the OEM strap sitting beside the watch. The dual-prong design makes perfect stylistic sense when paired with a 2-eye watch, I reckon. But, alas, it was at least ¾-inch (1.9 Cm) too short to fit me, not to mention the missing 10mm buckle & tang.

Now, it's an exceedingly odd width, at 29mm, so I really didn't have much hope as I started sorting through me mammoth box o' spare straps. But to my utter amazement, I found a match!

Well, kind of a match. The 29mm width was right, and it was nearly long enough. But, of course, being basically a 1-piece non-tapered Bund was rather a problem. This calls for a bit of Caveman Strapmaking!

I grabbed me trusty X-Acto and a straightedge, split the strap into 2 pieces, fashioned springbar loops, and voilà! smiling smiley Splitting it in twain effectively lengthened it by 20mm or so, and it's just long enough now.

Yes, the Caveman nature of the mod is apparent looking at the back side..

But not bad at all from the front, I fancy. If you discount those now superfluous Bund loops that would normally grab the springbars, that is. Hey! Think of it as a feature not a bug! Perhaps I'll clip my keys there. Whistling...

OK! On to the watch itself! Chrome-plated base metal, it measures a whopping 52.5mm wide w/o crowns, yet only 36mm lengthwise across the lugs, and 8mm thick. Again, the lug width is an oddball 29mm. Turns out they can also be had..

..with cream or red dials, and they go for ~ US $32 shipped. Power is provided by a pair of SII/TMI PC21S movements thumbs up so that's a big plus in my book.

A bit on the crude side, perhaps, but I find that a dual-movement design is an eminently practical way to implement Dual Time. No fiddling about with a 4th hand! And you can reset the one without disturbing the other, of course.

I'm even pretty happy with the way the Caveman strap turned out...

That whacking great buckle might look more at home on a belt than a watch strap, I grant ye. And, yes, the design philosophy is totally opposite that of the teensy dual-10mm buckles the OEM strap wore. But it works for me, as a sort of study in contrasts.

It's certainly different, and I very much doubt I'll run across anyone else wearin' one. winking smiley

Well, that's certainly a no-nonsense approach to "dual time." I suppose it doesn't get any simpler, conceptually. thumbs up (n/t) DJM 21 September 10, 2012 01:41PM
And I've found that, as a general rule, Simple=Good.
Yeah, it can make for a pretty funky watch. winking smiley

But it works like a champ! thumbs up
