..I kinda promised to Mark C last Saturday.

So, I'm doing this deal with my next-door neighbor, basically.. well, I suppose you'd say "renting" his backhoe rig. But, of course, the true Mississippi way of doing such a deal involves cash money only as a last resort. Swapping and/or bartering is the usual. So I ask if he needs any dozer work done. I am smiling... Turns out, yeah, he does. Thumbs Up! But 'tis a small job that might take an hour, 2 at most. I'm gonna need his backhoe for a good 6, maybe even 8 hours I am sad... so I'm on the short end of the stick.

But wait! I know for a fact that he needs a new watch, 'cause a few weeks back he brought his non-functioning Timex by for me to have a look. Turned out to be a dead module (he dropped it on a cement floor, I finally learn Crazy, man!) instead of the expected dead battery, so he's now watchless. So you see where I'm going... Laughing!

Yeah, I broke out the stock of Honest Ricky's Used Wristwatches to see what might strike his fancy. I am smiling... Well, he was unimpressed with the ones I thought he might like, but was salivating heavily over this Eco-Drive...

Part of the SoCal Contingent, I had to admit that this unit wasn't working. "Don't even know why I keep it with the good watches, Dale, 'cept it's so purty..". Well he keeps playing with the watch for a couple of minutes, and announces "This watch does work! Maybe not right, but that hand is movin'!". I am confused... So I check it out and, sure enough, the minute hand is moving. WTH?! Scary!

So I downloaded the instruction manual for the 0850 movement and DoH! turns out the 'pusher' at 4 o'clock is actually a stem & crown! Oops! My goof! I mean, yeah, it does feel like and function as a pusher, but you can also pull it out and rotate it like a conventional crown. Well, long story short, when I set the mode to 'Time' per the manual, and pulled out the crown, the watch sprang to life like a thing posessed as the hands started moving all over the place. Crazy, man! 'twas in 'sleep' mode I think, and was searching for the correct time. Talk about feelin' like a dumbass... Oops! My goof! Scary! Laughing!

Anyway, we made the deal, he's over the moon with his new used Eco-Drive, and I won't be puttin' up any cash for the use of the backhoe. Is Happy Day! Win-win I call that! WIS honeymoon Thumbs Up!

So let that be a lesson to ye, me boys! Sometimes you'll do well to RTFM. Wink, wink ... I am smiling... Laughing!

Oh, and note to PaulGeo - That makes the SoCal Contingent 6 for 8! Wink, wink ... WooHoo! Is Happy Day! I doubt that I'll ever be able to do anything with the Russian..

..but I think maybe I'll tinker with this Timex...

..this evening, see if I can get it up to 7 for 8, at least. I am smiling...

Ricky, PM me with the mailing address of the Home for Wayward Watches. I have a candidate of Slavic origin. If you can resuscitate this one, I'll regard you as a WISorcerer of the highest order.

Crikey, Jeff! I am confused... That's expecting a lot of a poor ignorant Caveman Watchmaker who's too dumb to RTFM, and has already struck out on one Russian. Scary!

But, OK, I'm game! Laughing!

PM dispatched... Wink, wink ...
