As I mentioned a couple of weeks back, I set myself a goal of clearing out the backlog of watches that Bro. Marc (aka MCV) sent to Ricky Lee's Home For Wayward Wristwatches last May, on behalf of his late father. Well, I got 'er done! Wink Most needed new batteries, the bracelet models had links to install, and a few required minor repairs. I uncased the movements and cleaned the dial/crystal on several. Before you take me to task for spending so long changing a few batteries, check the before photo HERE.

Here's the "after" photo...

Alrighty. On with the show. I'd been eying this one for some time, so I decided to tackle it first...

It was a case of "picking the low-hanging fruit", really, since it was one of the few that didn't need a battery. No surprise, really.. Those CR2016 Lithium cells will go for 5+ years in my experience, provided you don't use the backlight too much.

Base metal bezel w/ SS back, 38.5mm x 46mm x 11.4mm thick, with 18mm lugs. No chrono function here, ye'll note, just time-date-alarm. Nice and simple! Thumbs up! One nice touch..

..is the hexagonal crown. WIS Honeymoon Looks great, feels great to the fingers, and is a joy to use. All functions are set via the crown, not a pushbutton in sight! Another nice touch..

..is that full operating instructions are stamped on the caseback. Clapping! I wish more manufacturers would do this...

Couldn't resist a Family Portrait with my latest Timex-Group acquisition..

..the TX Watches model T3C197 Flyback Chronograph. Smile It holds its own quite well, I think.

A word about the strap. It came on an 18mm black leather Timex Watch Co.-signed strap which, while of OK quality and having plenty of life left was, of course, way too short for my wrist. I am crying However, a narrow strap on a hooded-lug watch is not a look I'm fond of. Indeed, I do my best to avoid it. Will go to great lengths to avoid it, in fact.

A quick inventory told me that I had no 24mm leather straps on hand, at least not one I was willing to butcher modify. Smile The patriotic nylon was a QnD way of getting it on the wrist. And..

..it wears Grrrrrrrr8! Say what you will about the unusual color scheme, I think it's a fitting homage to the US Made Watch or Movement roots of Timex Watch Co.. Still, that darned "step" between case and strap bothered me. What to do, what to do? Then I think "You know, this watch would look great on the right bracelet". Hmmmm.

So I dig through the junk box Meticulously Cataloged Stash Of Spare Bracelets and - WooHOO! - there's one which shows promise. A quick check of the length tells me it's possible, though it will be close. One slight stumbling block is that the endpieces are ¾-inch (19mm). But, hey, I'm pretty handy with a Dremel® tool. Smile I had 'er ground down to 18mm in a trice and..

Not bad. Not bad at all!

Alas, when I doffed the watch is was BzzzzzzzzzzzzzT! Close, but no cigar. Frowning But I'm talking very close, and I actually wore the watch for a couple of hours to see if I could hang with it. But no. While it didn't impede the circulation of blood to me hand - not quite - it did, shall we say, "leave an impression". Eek! Too tight.

So, yeah, I sulked for a bit. Laughing Considered putting it back on nylon. But I am not one to give up easily, and I wondered if swapping on a longer clasp shell might not do the trick. Something of a long shot, but it's that close. Long story short, the fates were smiling on me! I found a shell that was the proper width and, more to the point, a full 4.5mm longer. Careful measurement told me that, due to the location of the springbar holes, I would actually gain only 1.5mm. But I'm pretty handy with a drill-press, too. Blushing So I tracked down my trusty #60 drill bit, popped in a couple of holes, and..

Voilà Cool It works! It's a happy day, a new watch arrived

Not sure whose logo that is on the clasp shell..

..kinda sorta looks like Mercedes, huh? I am confused Anyway the fit is now spot-on perfect, so I pronounce the operation a success!

What's that? You want a Lume shot? OK!

I love shooting active illumination watches! Sooo easy! Where it usually takes me 3 or 4 tries (and sometimes twice that! Eek!) with conventional lume, I can usually nail a backlight watch on the first go. That was the case here.

One thing's for sure..

..it wears equally Grrrrrrrrrr8! on the bracelet!

And the more I look, the more I find the slightly funky styling of this bracelet to be the perfect match for the watch. I am in love! WIS Honeymoon Smile

Thanks Bro. Marc, to you and to your father. This one's a Keeper with a capital "K"!!

Cheers!

Nice save & upgrade! That bracelet looks like it is OEM!
Have you thought about giving everything a polish?

Re: Have you thought about giving everything a polish?

Nope, not everything. I am confused

The bracelet, yeah, it could use a touch-up for sure.

But the case is plated base metal, remember. Far too easy to go overboard! Oops! Eek! Fortunately it doesn't really need it. Smile And I wouldn't touch the top side of the watch head in any case. The radially concentric "brushed" pattern is too pretty! WIS Honeymoon

..temporarily swapped the onto a black 20mm G10 NATO, the better to facilitate dual-wristing. Laughing

I really should shoot some photos of the combo, but Miss Pam has a Honey Do List for me today, so I doubt I'll get the chance.

{sigh}

So much WIS'in to do, so little free time. Wink

Cheers!

Re: I find the slightly funky styling of this bracelet to be the perfect match for the watch.

I'd say you nailed it with that match. That's got to be the funkiest Timex (modern one, anyway) that I can recall. Looks good! smile

After some reflection, I think a big part...
..of the bracelets attraction for me is that it pretty much nails the look of a vintage expansion bracelet Twist-O-Flex© without actually being one. Rolling on the floor laughing my a.. off

Thanks for the kind words mate!

Cheers!
