Unexpected in the sense that I didn't think there was any way I'd see this one before Monday, and more likely Tuesday. But lo and behold, my mailperson dropped this one off today...

seller's photos

A Timex handwinder, model 26960-2773, which dates it to 1973.

It's pretty much "standard sized" for the period, at 35mm x 40mm, and the case, dial, and hands are very nearly mint. The crown doesn't even show any brassing to the naked eye, a real rarity on a handwind of this vintage. Thumbs Up!

Mind you, the crystal is quite "hazed", with a myriad number of fine scratches. But it's acrylic, so no problem, it'll polish right up.

The movement is clean as a whistle, shows excellent amplitude, and has run spot-on for the ~ 3 hours I've been watching it. Not that I'd expect anything less from a Timex.. I am smiling...

The one minor niggle is that the date is not perfectly centered in the window. Oops! My goof! No surprise, though, as the e-Flay pics made that apparent. For the price, $1.29 + shipping, I reckon I can live with it. Wink, wink ...

It came sans strap, and that's an XL 18mm WBHQ croc-pattern that I had layin' about. Works for me! Wink, wink ...

This one will get a full Tom Swift spit-shine when I get a round tuit but, for now, I'm gonna enjoy it as-is. WIS honeymoon

Thanks for lookin', y'all!

Or, perhaps this is a "I know it when I see it" sort of measurement. Laughing!

Oh, I'm just busting on you. You know I'd trust your guesses more that most folks facts any day.

And busted I am! Oops! My goof! Wink, wink ...

In my defense, I do own an example with amplitude so low that it's amazing to me that it even runs at all. And, yes, I did do a side-by-side comparison. I am smiling... The contrast was quite shocking. Scary!

Thanks Dave.. but complete disclosure demands I warn you that you should trust my guesses only at your own peril. I am smiling... Laughing! R O T F L M A O !!!!

It's a bit counter intutive, but >> (Views: 21)

Right you are! 'tis running on the order of +2 min/day... (Views: 9)

..perhaps even a tad more. Still not an outrageous amount of error for a 40 year-old watch that was so inexpensive to begin with. Wink, wink ...

I bet it took almost an hour to set the day/date. Wink, wink ...

My fingers just don't hold up when trying to cycle through more than a week on the date of the Timex you sent me.

Honestly, on these old slow-set day-dates, I usually don't bother.. I just ignore the day and date. Laughing!

Thank you! Chris!

Good catch, Ricky! You're paying even less than I am! Laughing! (n/t) (Views: 13)
